Solar PV, Backup Power or Full Hybrid System?

Understand the difference between grid-tied solar, backup power and hybrid energy systems.

Solar Basics Technical Guide

Engineering basis

Grid-tied PV primarily offsets coincident daytime demand. A backup system supplies selected essential circuits during an outage. A hybrid system coordinates PV, battery, grid and—where required—generator power through defined source priorities and reserve settings.

Design and verification requirements

Architecture selection must consider supply arrangement, protected-load peak and surge demand, outage duty, export constraints, recharge time, tariff periods, changeover behaviour and the required grid-forming source. The operating modes must be proven during commissioning.

MicroSec technical workflow

  1. Confirm the client objective and operating modes.
  2. Measure and document the site conditions and load profile.
  3. Complete the electrical and energy design.
  4. Install to approved drawings and manufacturer requirements.
  5. Test, program, commission and record the final settings.
  6. Monitor performance and maintain the system through its service life.

Important: Final equipment selection, protection settings and compliance documentation require a site-specific assessment.
